Wood Woad and Weave
Come and experience a Norse Craft village and explore early medieval woodworking and metal crafts. On this two day event you'll be able to see a full-scale Iron Age Roundhouse, as well as getting some lessons in blacksmithing! Get up close to some authentically dressed Norsemen and experience the action and drama of a viking combat. Join weaving and dyeing experts for some soap making ancient and modern. Find out how woad was used to dye fabrics and how wood ash was used in soap. You'll also have a chance to hear archaeologists explain the techniques of dendrochronology - the dating of trees ages by counting the number of rings in its stump.
Fancy rolling up your sleeves and helping to make a traditional pole lathe with the woodworkers? Join in the pole lathe workshop on Saturaday. On Sunday you have a fun chance to make simple wooden object to take home using the pole lathes from the previous day.
